The other day got invited out to a meal - my mate who we'll call Chris has a new(ish) girlfriend we'll call Sarah and they're still doing their honeymoon phase thing.
So we're at this place and over drinks we get onto the subject of waxing. We joke about times we've waxed our legs back at college - general chitchat...
Anyway Sarah blurts out that she thinks waxing is gross and that too many girls are being forced into getting a hollywood wax and that it's disgusting and we all need to do something (She obviously doesn't know what) to reverse this recent habit brought on by porn addicted sad men and that women who do this probably have no self respect.
The mood at the table obviously went a little bit cold at this point and the conversation moved on. My mate had this continual pained expression on his face throughout.
Anyways later in the evening the girls are talking about make up, Sarah has been annoyingly loud, shouting at waiters and complaining about her food... Right.
I laugh and say how Jessica (My plate with me for this evening) has seemingly endless amounts of makeup. They both laugh, I ask Sarah how it all works and why Jess needs to have so much of the stuff...
Well - You have toner, moisturiser, cleanser, then a foundation base layer, a mid layer then a....
This went on for some time, talking about god knows what, a matt foundation then a sealant of some kind then something to bounce light off your cheeks and under your eyes and a subtle blush - etc.
So I ask, "so it's really designed to make your skin look smooth, firm, healthy and young?"
Nods from Sarah.
So I said, "why is that ok - but waxing your pubic hair not ok - when they're designed to achieve the exact same thing, the look of a pubescent girl? Make up and removal of pubic hair goes back thousands of years and is not a phenomena of the last 15 years."
She opened and closed her mouth a few times. I turned to indicate Jess and said "Jess understands this, that's why she's sporting a Hollywood wax right now (look of minor terror from Sarah). She doesn't have to wax, no one is forcing her to - just like no one forces me to wear a tailored shirt and work out 4-5 times a week. She knows I do it to be attractive for her, and I know she does this to be attractive for me, I can take or leave a Hollywood wax but knowing why she's doing it makes me want her more - which is why she can't wait for me to take her home tonight and why you'll be arguing all night".
After 5 seconds Jess pipes up with "It does make you feel a lot sexier I think" with a nervous smile.
Sarah is still trying to reconcile the fact she's been attacking the person she's been sat opposite with all night and then realised what I said about them arguing and her face turns sour.
We pay up and leave, make sure my mate is cool and we go our separate ways.
